CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

English Language Acquisition Certificate Programs
NAC offers morningand evening classes in English Language Acquisition (ELA) and Test Preparation.
• Level 1 (Low Beginner)
• Level 2 (High Beginner)
• Level 3 (Low Intermediate)
• Level 4 (High Intermediate)
• Level 5 (Low Advanced)
• Level 6 (Advanced )

University Preparation
NAC offers a five-month University course in the morning and evening. Students will receive a certificate when they complete all five months of the course

Business English Program
NAC offers a four-month Business English program in the morning and evening. Students will receive a certificate when they complete all four months of the program.

American Culture and Conversation
NAC offers a part-time, pass/fail American Culture and Conversation class. Students will receive a certificate when they pass the class.

English for Healthcare
NAC offers a part-time English for Healthcare program. The program consists of four modules; students can take the modules in any order and will receive a certificate for each module completed.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION PROGRAMS

Beginner Program Objectives
When finished with the Beginner ELA Program, students will be able to use English to speak in basic words and sentences. They will learn pronunciation and be able to communicate in basic situations, such as restaurants, stores and public transportation.

Intermediate Program Objectives
When finished with the Intermediate ELA Program, students will be able to use English to communicate on their own in many situations. They will be able to communicate in social settings. They will be able to communicate in basic work settings. They will be developing writing skills at the same time.

Advanced Program Objectives
When finished with the Advanced ELA Program, students will communicate effectively in English. They also will have developed advanced listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

TOEFL Preparation Objectives
The TOEFL preparation course will provide students with the skills necessary to successfully answer questions and complete the tasks on the TOEFL iBT test. It will familiarize students with the TOEFL test format as well as teach test-taking skills and strategies for each of the four sections of the TOEFL test: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.

University Preparation
This course is designed for students with an advanced level of English comprehension who passed NAC’s level 6 or achieved a level 6 on the EPT (University of Michigan English Placement Test). The course will focus on skills needed in university such as advanced, real-life listening and reading activities, writing research papers, giving presentations, studying advanced vocabulary, and working in groups. Grammar and pronunciation will be targeted in context.

Business English
Business English is a four-month program. This course is designed for students with an advanced level of English comprehension skills who have passed NAC’s levels 4, 5, or 6, or achieved a level 5 or above on the EPT (University of Michigan English Placement Test). The course will focus on business skills such as negotiating, managing and taking part in meetings, making presentations, taking part in job interviews, writing a resume, and dealing with figures. Grammar, reading, writing, listening, vocabulary, and speaking will be targeted in a business context.

English for Healthcare
English for Healthcare is a certificate program offered Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The curriculum consists of four modules that deal with effective communication tools for healthcare professionals and students. A module takes four weeks to complete (24 hours total). Modules can be taken in any order. A certificate will be granted for each module.

Class Schedule

Morning: Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Evening: Monday through Thursday 5:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
